Winning Ticket for $400M Powerball Jackpot Sold in South Carolina
Sept. 19, 2013
The winning Powerball ticket for the estimated $400 million jackpot was sold in South Carolina, according to lottery officials.
The winning numbers are 7, 10, 22, 32, 35, and Powerball 19.
There were two Match 5 winners from Florida and Pennsylvania, who will
each win a cool $2 million and six additional $1 million winners.
Wednesday night's drawing for the $400 million jackpot was considered
the fifth largest in U.S. history. A $656 million Mega Millions ticket
sold in March 2012 still stands as the largest jackpot of all time.
Odds of matching all six numbers are about 1 in 175 million, according
to the game's website, which means you're 25 times more likely to win an
Academy Award in your lifetime.
Gloria C. Mackenzie, 84, of Zephyrhills, Fla., was named the winner of
the largest Powerball jackpot in history. Mackenzie won the $590 million
Powerball bonanza last May after she bought her ticket at a Publix
Supermarket. The second-largest grand prize of $587 million was split by
two ticketholders from Arizona and Missouri last November.
Powerball, ticket prices doubled from $1 to $2 in January 2012, which
has accounted for the swelling jackpots and tons of media attention.
Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
