UFC 290 main card lineup official
UFC 290's main card lineup has been confirmed and it promises an exciting event. Happening on July 8 during the UFC's annual International Fight Week, the event will feature two title fights as the main attractions.
In the main event, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will face off against interim champion Yair Rodriguez in a unification match. Volkanovski, currently ranked No. 2 in MMA Fighting's pound-for-pound male fighter rankings, aims to defend his title for the fifth consecutive time. Meanwhile, Rodriguez earned the interim title with a second-round submission victory over Josh Emmett.
The co-headliner will showcase Brandon Moreno defending his flyweight championship against Alexandre Pantoja in a rematch. Moreno has previously faced Pantoja twice, losing both encounters. Their first bout occurred in 2016 during an exhibition match on TUF 24, which Pantoja won via a second-round rear-naked choke. In their 2018 UFC bout, Pantoja emerged victorious again with a unanimous decision.
The main card lineup also includes an intense No. 1 contender's match between former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and up-and-coming contender Dricus Du Plessis. Fans can also anticipate an exciting lightweight clash between Jalin Turner and Dan Hooker, as well as a middleweight bout featuring promising prospect Bo Nickael against Tresean Gore to kick off the pay-per-view card.
The venue for UFC 290 is the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which adds to the anticipation of this action-packed event.
