Mike O'Malley says goodbye to Cory Monteith
Mike O'malley has turned into one of TV's go-to fathers.
On the new NBC comic drama Welcome to the Family, he plays the father of a secondary school young lady who is having a child with her Latino beau. Also on Glee, he plays the father of gay scholar Kurt (Chris Colfer) —and the stepfather of the quarterback played by the late Cory Monteith.
O'malley has affectionate remembrances of Monteith as a performer, commending the "profundity of feeling he was equipped to depict." And he has just as affectionate remembrances of him as an individual.
"He was the fictional quarterback on the show, and he was the genuine quarterback on that set. He was an amazingly warm fellow, a gentleman who was inviting to everybody who went ahead that show … I recently cherished working with him. He was an incredible fellow, and I miss him a lot."
Can O'malley come back to Glee this time of year? "I want to ... I'll work at a young hour in the mornings, late during the evening, Saturdays, Sundays, whatever I have to do to take an interest, not just to have the ability to be on that show yet to distinction Cory, his work and his passing."
